Until the new year my entries will be short and sweet, if by sweet I mean sick, sad and sarcastic.

My suggestion for post-Christmas glut reading material is Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickle and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America. Libertarians, eat your hearts out (it may be the only sustenance you can afford on minimum wage.) The rest of you will never again experience a guilt-free moment. Revel in it masochists.

My nomination for this Christmas' Scrooge is none other than, G Dubs himself. This year instead of getting a lump of coal. You get to be a lump of coal.
Futility at its finest

In closing, Happy Kwanzaa from Tony Snow who wrote in 1999, as a syndicated columnist (and later White House Press Secretary,) "There is no part of Kwanzaa that is not fraudulent."
Parts of Kwanzaa certainly seem suspect, namely its originator, Ron Karenga. But, if there is one thing that no part of is not fraudulent, it's White House Press Secretaries.

your entries are somewhat frightening in that they provide me very precise and critical statements bashing our political infrastructure and our President. Yes, i agree that his decision to embark on a journey to reconstruct Iraq and to make attempts to abolish or, at least, mitigate the threats from neo-extremists ultimately led to over two thousand deaths on our side; however, this decision was well thought out and examined before execution. Now, you'll probably rebut by saying that you don't necessarily disagree with the initial decision but that you indisputably can't figure out the reasoning in keeping the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan to only be subject to a tiresome struggle of attrition. Suppose we left those areas, whether we left in manners similar to the frantic scramblings of soldiers atop the embassy in SAigon during the Vietnam War or how the Soviets left the middle east in a fashion suited for victors (yet they were nowhere near it) during one of their earlier wars does not matter to me the slightest bit, but what would consequently happen may actually be somewhat similar to that of anarchy and tribalisms. Several factions fighting to become the King of the Hill. More bloodshed would ensue and eventually things would progress 'unfathomably' worse. It's a mistake he is aware of and he's doing his best to keep it under control. Our armed forces need our support now more than ever as they fight in battles that have no lines and meet people in Iraq who may turn around and should them with hidden pistols. And more importantly, I feel that 'G dubs' needs our support as he lives each day to be reminded over and over again of his decision to invade Iraq as a mistake that may very well stain his family from past and future generations alike. He knows he made a mistake...so now it's time to forgive and support. g'luck

your "precise and critical" statements are exactly what makes a democracy work and are the responsibility of every US citizen. not frightening at all, commendable. kudos.
as for G.Dubs needing our support, isn't blind support of a leader and their ideology what most Americans find distasteful about fundamentalist governments? furthermore, why should we be concerned that he is "reminded over and over again of his decision to invade Iraq as a mistake that may very well stain his family from past and future generations alike"? firstly, he has never admitted such a mistake nor asked for forgiveness. we should not assume that he "knows he made a mistake". also, one would think that such constant reminders (which are indeed the hallmark of a healthy and interactive society) would produce a change in action, but they have not. they have only served to illustrate the dissatisfaction of the American people with the current administration, which was manifested in last year's elections, which showed a change in the balance of power in the senate.
never mind that the "stain to his family" is much less important than the stain to the American people and American diplomacy that his poor decision making has caused. (besides, the Bush family has proved itself to be as resilient as cockroaches when it comes to surviving such "stains". ahem, cocaine addiction.)
